TENNISCLUB „DESTEL E.V. 1971“
In 1968, a group of interested tennis players formed together with Mr. and Mrs. Hüsemann from Destel. Renate and Dieter Hüsemann made a plot of land available at the Winkelmann restaurant, on which the tennis facility was built. In the beginning, they played on one court. A tent served as the clubhouse and changing room. From these beginnings, the TC Destel club was founded in 1971. The great popularity of the club made it necessary to build two more courts in 1972. in 1973, it was possible to play on 3 courts and floodlights were installed on the two newly built courts.
the first championship matches were played in 1974, with one men's and one women's team competing successfully. in 1977, a small clubhouse was built and the plans for an indoor tennis hall to be built by Mr. and Mrs. Hüsemann were on the table.
The TC Destel was always very successful in sports. They usually played in the district! The men's team even made it to the Westfalenliga! Even today, four teams still play successfully. The TC is a very active club. Club celebrations were held regularly: in 1981, 1996 and 2011, the club celebrated its 10th, 25th and 40th anniversaries!
After the restaurant burned down in 2016 and the changing facilities in the tennis hall were no longer available, a new building was constructed on the grounds of the tennis facility. Today, TC Destel is a small, sociable tennis club with a beautiful facility, the latest shower and changing rooms, which is very active in organizing annual club championships, team and friendly matches, a bike tour and a hike.
