STEMWEDE (ERLEBEN.APP)

SCHUTZGEBIET "ALTER TEICH"

The area represents a 44-hectare, richly structured grassland-small woodland complex with wet grassland fallows, remnants of alder woodland and near-natural small bodies of water in the northeast of Destel in a lowland and lowland edge location over anmoorgley and gley soils.

In the middle of the area, large areas of fallow grassland are noticeable, some of which are wet. There are also remnants of alder scrub forest on fen peat bogs, some of which are heavily drained, and a shallow pond. This part of the area is characterized by the presence of a population of the nationally endangered marsh grasshopper.

SOIL TYPE: GLEY The name of this soil is derived from Russian and means mud. A soil becomes muddy when it has a high water content. Gley soils are soils whose properties are altered by high groundwater levels.

SOIL TYPE: ANMOORGLEY If the humus content of groundwater-influenced soils is between 15 and 30%, they are referred to as anmoorgley.

HISTORICAL CLASSIFICATION Intensive cultivation of the peripheral areas was only made possible by the development of the Buschmannsorter Graben. The field name is already very old and suggests an artificially created still water body with inlet and outlet (Buschmannsorter Graben) similar to the Lever Teich (large Diek river, e.g. as a mill pond). There is no clear evidence of how the pond was used, e.g. as a mill pond, fish pond or water reservoir.

Settlement-historical development on the outskirts probably only took place very late. "A windmill as a farm mill was located on the Rümke farmstead, Am Alten Teich. It was built for the farm's own use and had a grinding gear for the cattle. It ran without a motor and sheets were pulled up when the wind was right. It was demolished in 1950 due to dilapidation."
